Red Storm – Red Leicester, Pasteurised Cow’s Milk, Suitable For Vegetarians

An aptly named cheese considering all the storms we have had in 2014! Although this we will be a storm that you actually will want to invite to your house.

New for 2014 from the Snowdonia cheese company comes this 18 month matured Red Leicester known as “Red Storm” which packs a lovely but strong, creamy and matured flavour edge. There is no word on a release date as far as I can tell but this cheese looks like it could roll out to shows/online anytime soon. The packaging follows the same design in packaging as its Brothers & Sisters. It will be a very hard storm to predict because Snowdonia cheese as it is only available online, markets & small independent stockists at the moment, which as I have said before is not a bad thing at all.

The taste of this cheese is super with its creaminess comes a strength more like an extra mature cheddar than a Red Leicester and I can certainly see it being at home in a ploughman’s or to grate on top of a chilli con carne where its flavour will complement all aspects of flavours. The ending of it is smooth, nutty and sweet and certainly a welcome addition to the Red Leicester world and a quick note is that it isn’t as dry as Sparkenhoe or Thomas Hoe but can compete in flavour.

When available to purchase go for it as it will certainly change the way you look at Red Leicester’s.
